Kehilat Sar Shalom values the relationships that are developed at the congregation and we put an emphasis on our congregants having a strong sense of community. Because of that, after our service at Kehilat Sar Shalom, we have a lite snack or oneg (delight in Hebrew) of coffee, bagels and juice (PB&J for the children). This gives time for fellowshipping and a time for questions about Kehilat Sar Shalom. It also gives us time to share our lives with each other and catch up with what’s been happening during the week. It makes for a very friendly congregation.
On holidays and special occasions we have a dinner together where everyone brings some food and we feast together! Also, during the biblical festivals, we have the traditional foods such as apples and honey and round challah for Rosh Hashanah, latkes and doughnuts for Chanukah, hamentashen (cookies) for Purim, etc.
The way that we accomplish this is by having four teams of people who provide the food and do the work of setting up and cleaning up after services one week each month. We encourage all of our members to join one of the teams.
